Documents
A document holds the writing you want next to your work: meeting notes, a design spec, a reference, or a saved link. Each one has a type — note, spec, reference or link — and sits in a space or project. The content is plain text you write as Markdown; the Preview tab renders it so you can check the result without leaving the page.
Create a document
Section titled “Create a document”Select the add button beside a space in the sidebar and choose New document. Day Planner creates an “Untitled” document in that space and opens the editor, where the title, type and content are all editable. A document with no space or project stays out of the sidebar tree.
Create a document over the API
Section titled “Create a document over the API”This request creates a spec inside a space you choose:
curl -X POST https://tasks.example.com/api/documents \ -H "Authorization: Bearer dp_change-me" \ -H "Content-Type: application/json" \ -d '{"title":"Launch plan","docType":"spec","content":"# Launch","spaceId":"SPACE_ID"}'The response returns the new document with status 201 and its id. Only title is required; content, url, docType and the spaceId and projectId links are optional, and docType defaults to note. To list documents instead, use GET /api/documents, optionally with a spaceId or projectId filter.
Edit a document
Section titled “Edit a document”The editor saves your work automatically; there is no save button. As you type, the status shows Unsaved changes, then Saving… less than a second after you stop, then Saved.
Day Planner sends one save at a time. If you keep typing while a save is in progress, those edits wait and go out as a single update after it finishes. A version in between can be skipped entirely, so the newest text is always the last thing saved and a slow save can never overwrite it.
Two rules hold a save back until you fix them: the title can’t be empty, and a link document’s URL must start with http:// or https://. The status names the rule that’s broken. Clearing the URL field removes the link from the document. If a save fails because the network dropped, your text stays on screen and the status says to edit again to retry. Changing the title also refreshes the sidebar, which lists document titles.
Delete a document
Section titled “Delete a document”Select Delete in the editor and confirm when asked. The deletion can’t be undone, and Day Planner takes you to the tasks page. Deleting a space or project doesn’t delete its documents — they stay, without that link.
Checklists and labels belong to tasks
Section titled “Checklists and labels belong to tasks”Documents don’t have checklists or labels; those attach to tasks. A checklist item belongs to a single task and follows that task’s owner — see Checklist items REST API to add and tick items, and Labels for tagging tasks.
Who can open a document
Section titled “Who can open a document”A document belongs to the account that created it, and only that account can open or edit it. Requesting someone else’s document id returns the same “not found” as an id that doesn’t exist, so the API never reveals whether a document is there.
