API keys
An API key lets a script or AI agent use Day Planner as you, without your password. Every signed-in user can manage their own keys in Settings → API keys.
Create a key
Section titled “Create a key”- Enter a name that says where the key will be used, such as “Claude Code on laptop”.
- Choose an expiry: none, 30 days, 90 days or a year.
- Select Create key and copy it straight away. It starts with
dp_and is never shown again; Day Planner stores only a hash.
Use a key
Section titled “Use a key”Send it with each request, as either header:
curl -H "Authorization: Bearer dp_change-me" https://tasks.example.com/api/taskscurl -H "x-api-key: dp_change-me" https://tasks.example.com/api/tasksBoth requests list your open tasks. To use a key with an AI agent, see Connect an agent.
Limits
Section titled “Limits”Each key allows 600 requests per minute. Past that, the key stops authenticating until the minute is up: requests get 401 Unauthorized, so slow down, then retry.
Revoke a key
Section titled “Revoke a key”Select Revoke next to the key. It stops working immediately. The list shows when each key was last used, which helps you find keys nothing uses any more.
If a user is banned, all their keys stop working too.
